Understanding of Ijtihad
Ijtihad Derived from the pronunciation of Ijtihada which means devoting energy and mind or working as much as possible. Ijtihad is devoting all thinking skills to issuing Shariah law from the arguments of the syara 'arguments, namely the Qur'an and Hadith

Fill in the contents of Ijtihad
The content of Ijtihad is the answer to all the legal issues of Islam that do not clearly have the answers in the Qur'an and the Sunnah. the problem of Muslims who need legal answers, can take from the results of ijtihad carried out by mujtahid scholars

The agreement of most scholars said that ijtihad in the teachings of Islamic religion has a position as a source of Islamic law which when exploring Islamic law, the mujtahid scholars used various methods, including Ijmak, kias, istihsan, istishab, maslahah mursalah and 'urf

Ijtihad function

Even though Al Quran has been completely and completely revealed, it does not mean that everything in human life is regulated in detail by Al Quran and Al Hadist. In addition, there are differences in circumstances at the time of the decline of the Qur'an with modern life. So that at any time new problems will continue to develop and derivative rules are needed in implementing Islamic teachings in daily religious life.

If there are new problems for Muslims in a certain place or at a certain period of time then the issue is examined whether the matter in question has already existed and the provisions are clear in the Al Quran or Al Hadist. If there is already, then the problem must follow the existing provisions as stated in the Al-Quran or Al-Hadith.

But if the issue is a case that is unclear or there are no provisions in the Qur'an and Al Hadist, at that time, Muslims need the provisions of Ijtihad. But those who have the right to make Ijtihad are those who understand and understand Al Quran and Al Hadist

The function of ijtihad is to establish the law of something, which is not found in its legal arguments in the Qur'an and Hadith.

The problems are clearly legal, because the arguments have been definitively found in the Qur'an and the Hadith, such as the obligation to believe in the six pillars of faith, the obligation to carry out the old pillars of Islam, then these problems must not be tolerated.

In terms of the history of ijtihad, ijtihad has been carried out since the Prophet Muhammad was still alive and continues until he died.
